SCBWI Australia West Mandurah Retreat 2022

June 16 – 19, 2022

SCBWI West Members, the 2022 retreat is here!

We are now calling for registrations for SCBWI West’s popular annual retreat which this year will be held around the beautiful Mandurah Marina area. Joining us as special guests will be:

Gabriel Evans

Gabriel Evans is a Western Australian author and illustrator of several shortlisted and award-winning picture books. He works primarily in watercolour and pencil and will run a character development workshop at the retreat.

Sally Murphy

Sally Murphy is an award-winning author, poet, speaker and educator with a passion for writing, reading and speaking. Her life’s goal is to write for, read with and speak to as many people as possible, and spread a passion for reading and writing to children and adults worldwide. Sally will run a writing in prose workshop at the retreat.

Helen Milroy

Helen Milroy is a consultant psychiatrist with the Western Australia Department of Health, specialising in child and adolescent psychiatry, and director of the Western Australian Centre for Aboriginal Medical and Dental Health. She is recognised as the first Indigenous Australian to become a medical doctor. She is also a storyteller who has written three books for children. Helen will share her book creating secrets in a workshop at the retreat.

Judy Watson

Judy Watson is an award-winning Eastern States based children’s book illustrator and artist working with a combination of digital and traditional methods to make art that explores colour, light and our connection with nature. Judy uses print-making techniques, brush, pen and pencil, often improvising with tools and materials to produce images and textures that are then combined in Photoshop and flooded with colour to suit the mood of each piece. Judy will run an illustration workshop at the retreat. Judy will also offer one-on-one illustration portfolio critiques.
